You answered your own question..."I do not want to jeopardize my progress" which suggests you are still a bit wobbly and in the final stages of recovery...so to answer your question, "No". The fact you were worried about it all also suggests a person with standards...and I applaud you for your sincerity and efforts. Congratulations on your sobriety...and to your continued success.

Go back to work!!! Why should you not work and provide for yourself, instead of being a leech on society? You chose to drink, and finally decided to get sober.5 months ago. You now want to wait another 6 weeks on the dole so that you can get a job you like, IF you pass a driving test.
While it is great that you are now sober, it is time for you to get up, get out and get to work. If you really want the job that you have lined up, take a temporary job in the meantime. Not only will it allow you to provide for yourself, it will give you something to do other than sit around.

Taking it slow, and not pressuring yourself too much is the smarter option. The most important thing is avoiding a relapse. Most addicts (of anything) relapse at times of most stress, self-doubt or fear. Sadly this often occurs at the final hurdle.
As long as daily progress is being made, you have nothing to feel guilty about - quite the opposite.
2 months of benefits is better than another 3 years and only you and your counsellor know how you feel.
I would also advise against pinning your hopes on one event, however sweet that event may be. Failing the test , or losing the job will mean that you will have to find reserves of strength. Prepare mentally for that now. This isn't defeatist, you'll find that a serious contemplation of the worst will relax you enough to think realistically about achieving the best.

I would wait until you have passed your test, then you can move forward. You are doing well with your rehab so why jeopardise it by not following the career you would like to do. You will lose any benefit as soon as you start work so enjoy it while you can. Good luck in the future. Keep going the way you are and feel proud of yourself

I think you should wait until you are really ready, otherwise you could find yourself under too much stress and go back to square one, which would be bad. Hang on in there, get your driving licence, and go for that good job you have lined up. And don't feel guilty about claiming sickness benefit - look at the real scroungers out there with there 10 kids and 35k a year handouts! AND GOOD LUCK TO YOU MATE! XX

Karlos,
Go for it !!!!!! Work at the driving test, make sure you give it your best shot. The driving test is a bit arbitrary so keep in mind you may fail it on the day, there may be a disappointment, but that may not be your fault just the way the system works.
Then go for the job, I hope its not as a barman!!!! but go for it and I am sure everyone of the answers in here is saying the same although I haven't read any yet!

if your gp says you are fit to work then you should and you know this yourself. You could actively seek employment for several months and not get anywhere! Good luck with your driving test and staying off the booze!
