If the woman desires it yes absolutely. And likewise if
the man does.

The marraige contract TODAY means pretty much nothing.
At one time it protected the couple from breaking up during
times of weakness to protect the children and each other.
It also shows a level of commitment to that person that you
are willing to forsake all others and write it in stone.

Ladies desire a man who will cherish them and respect
them enough to marry them. This is part of a womans
psyche and it is no fault to her, she is just wired that way.
I also feel it is an institution that protects families and
children. Without marraige children can have broken homes
and mommy or daddy can leave or abandon them any time
they please. The level of single mothers is higher than ever
and children need fathers no matter what the feminists say.
We have more violence, suicide, and psychological problems
in children than ever before and alot of this has to do
with the melt down of the family. Marraige is what ties
us all together and keeps us together. It is a sign of
commitment and honor.

However today anyone can get a divorce for whatever
reason they want at any time so this protection has been
mostly lost.

If you do not personally wish this then that is your choice
but there is a reason it has been practiced for countless
generations. It is a symbol of love, protection, honor, and
family.

To me, Lovers are just two people having sex...Marriage is for those who are IN love and realize that good sex will only get you so far in a marriage...you need good comunication, humor, fun, romance, trust. I personally love marriage. It's a way of proving to each other that you are willing to be there for them and love them until one of you dies & that is a hell of a committment to make to someone. Marriage has a way of making a person feel secure, needed. You get married and you have a best friend for life. I hate to think of it as a "contract"......that just sounds cold and businesslike...and that is not what marriage is meant to be at all. Marriage to some...may be a business transaction...but to me it is an emotional transaction. You give everything that you are and everything that you have to another person and vice versa. marriage gives you a person to share life with, a person you can trust with your secrets and your bad habits without judgement. I love knowing that when I tell my husband something private he isn't going to go behind my back and tell everyone. He gives me a reason to look forward to coming home, going to bed and waking up in the morning. It's a fantastic feeling to have a love like that.

The point of marriage is for two people to enjoy life long companionship and friendship. This goes way beyond attraction, sex and infatuation which is what lovers have.
I think attraction and infatuation are enough to get you married but then you quickly realize that you have to reach within yourselves and and finds ways of existing together. You have to build a compatible friendship that will stand the test of time and the first step is to make the ultimate commitment, marriage.
Marriage is another step in growth and maturity.

Marriage is the "unselfish act between two people putting the needs, wants, and desires of their spouse ahead of their own and expecting nothing in return".

If both husband and wife agree and abide by this, the marriage should be long and happy.

I also think of marriage as two people walking tight ropes side-by-side holding each others' hands. They are supporting one another and going at the same pace. They trust the other won't let them fall. Once one of them breaks that bond, they fall.

Marriage is a mutual agreement/understanding between two people of the opposite sex who desire a long term commitment to each other ... for better or for worst . No you don't need a contract , but the license supports fringe benefits such as snuggles hugs etc...
