Currently it is thought that phenylethylamine (or PEA) is responsible for the feeling of love.

This stuff is very interesting, and if you like it I would recommend reading "The Human Mind" by Robert Winston. Great book!

He discusses how the parts of the brain that activate when feeling "love" are also the parts of the brain usually responsible for madness!

I'm not very sure, but as far as I'm concerned, feelings of attachment and pleasure are triggered due to the release of a neurotransmitter called DOPAMINE which is a monoamine similar in structure to noradrenaline.
