it's different in each place.
I know people who got some for 30, and some who got them for like 35-45.

look around.

OH also, I heard it doesn't hurt at first, but then you have to go 2 weeks in pain. My friend only drank cold stuff for 2 weeks cause he was in a lot of pain.

it should give you some caring instructions and healing times.

I got mine pierced in California, for a total of $50 ($35 for the piercing, $10 for the barbell, $5 for the replacement a week after healing).

Most of my trouble came from the fact that my tongue was so tired from sticking it out for so long. The initial pinch isn't too bad (I have a low pain tolerance, where stubbing my toe nearly brings me to tears)... stepping on a thorn is worse, in my opinion.

The first few hours after the piercing, there's no pain, just a very tired feeling in your tongue and jaw. Afterwards, as the swelling really starts to kick in, does the pain set in. It feels swollen, very raw, and burns a bit. That is taken care of by eating soft, cold foods (like ice cream and ice chips) and by taking an anti-inflammitory medicine (like Advil or ibuprofen). That lasts about 2 days, and the swelling is normally gone by the third or fourth day.

It's really not a matter of "no pain", but initial pain is so brief it's negligable. It's the pain later that night, and for the next day or two, that's noteworthy.

Cost:
About $40

Pain:
Depends on the person. I thought the piercing hurt like hell (I passed out) but I thought the healing was easy. I was eating normally 2 days later.
My wife on the other hand, didn't even blink when they pierced her...but she was eating jello and oatmeal for a week.
So it just depends...
However, don't listen to the people who say "it doesn't hurt at all"...they are lying. Of course it hurts! They put a piece of steel through your tongue for cryin' out loud!

Hurt is sure to hurt. I suggest you better think twice. I come across friends who got permanent blur speech after a tongue pierce.

it certainly not worth any amount of money for the pain you have to suffer. Are you going to stuck out your tongue everyday so that everyone can see? Your taste but will be affected too. Whatever it is, is it worth it?

Noone can really say, different in different places, just remember that quite often you get what you pay for in terms of cleanliness skill and paticularly jewellery quality.
As for pain, differs from person to person, was probably one of the least painful peircings I've had done.
