I read this on mydeadeclipse.com

...but I really like my Eclipse and take pretty good care of it.

Unfortunately, I can't yet afford to keep my Eclipse in a garage, so I'm worried her engine will rust out.

In 26 years in the auto business, and longer than that working on vehicles, I have never seen an engine rust out. I have seen engine blocks that were left in the weather have rust on them. I have seen engines with holes in the side due to a piston rod or bearing failure. I have never seen an engine rust through!

You may have body panels that rust through, and you may get some surface rust on the engine if you live in an area where corrosive road chemicals are used in the winter. You do not need to worry about the motor rusting out!!!!!!!

i have a 98 eclipse. it doesn't rust out. and i've never heard of engines rusting out. the ONLY thing that I can say that annoys me about the eclipse, is the battery acid build up on the battery... so it needs to be cleaned a couple times a year... but that's easy enough to remember... just do it at your regularly scheduled oil changes.
