I used to think that Dr. Laura was awesome. I thought she was forthright in telling it like it is and getting the callers to face the reality of their situation until...
I realized she's a fattist.
About 8 years ago a pre-teen called in about what to do about some girls at school calling her "fat". I was totally appalled at Laura's response. She said, "well, you ARE fat, aren't you? That's probably why they are saying that to you. They're not saying anything that isn't true. This is YOUR problem, not theirs."
I just wanted to burst into tears for the girl because you just know that she was probably at the end of her tether with these little witches and her mother probably encouraged her to get some advice from Dr. Laura.
After that I noticed how often Laura mentioned how "tiny" she is all the time. One time she said, "I'm probably 98 pounds soaking wet." and she was trying to make a point about how someone could DARE mistake her for whoever they mistook her for because THAT woman is a beast compared to her.
And, OK, if the girl is fat, she's fat, but I seriously doubt that if some kids were calling a retarded boy "retarded" all the time, she would have responded the same way.
"Well, you're retarded aren't you?" --I think not.
She lost ALL credibility with me after that.

I'm not sure who's smarter, but i think they both give mainly good advice -- advice worth considering, anyway.
