I heard it was going to be in Frinton On Sea. The local team have spent a fortune on their ground. They've put a new corrugated roof on the main stand and are hoping to have grass covering the whole of the pitch for the start of the tournament, instead of the sand / gorse mix they have currently. There even plans to to build an Olympic style village next to the Cod Almighty chip shop (who will be the official food suppliers). They'll be gutted if its not going to be there, all that time and money

Austria are the hosts, which mean one shite team will be in the finals. Switzerland are co-hosts, which means another shite team will be in the finals. It also means Germany will be in the finals, and neighbours France, Italy and the Czech Republic stand a very good chance. It always works that way it seems: when playing in a climate you know, with refs and officials wishing you well and commerce to make your progress vital - you're pretty sure the group stages will be easy. I'm more interested in Euro 2012. Italy are favoured now to host it and that should be good (everyone hates Italy now it seems), though Croatia/Hungary and Poland/Ukraine also stand a chance still. I don't like the double candidacies at all.

To answer a statement made above: France and Italy are in the same qualifying group...group B....they might be playing in the first qualifying match for euro 08 but because of this it makes it likely that they will not meet at euro until the final or later rounds, not opening the tournament with a match. And to the hopeful person who wrote that Scotland may make it I am sorry to say that you are wrong. They are in this same group (B) with France and Italy as well as the Ukraine. The top 2 teams qualify. Scotland will finish 4th.

Austria and Switzerland.
And the opening game is not France vs. Italy, its just the first qualifying game for them... But Zidane and Materazzi won't meet: Zidane has retired and Materazzi isnt allowed to play.
