And how would I choose what few songs I'd want on the nano?

Yes you can.
When you connect your iPod Video, iTunes will recognise it and will show iPod Video (or the name you have given it). Similarly, when you connect the Nano, iTunes will recognise it and you will see iPod Nano (or the name you have given it)
All you need to do is drag and drop the songs you want on your iPod from the library to your iPod icon.
Or, to get your iPod updated automatically, click on the little iPod icon on the bottom right of the iTunes screen which is the preferences button. Then select "Automatically update songs and playlists" and now, every time you connect your iPod, iTunes automatically adds any new songs from the library to the iPod for you.

i think provided they were both synced from the same computer in the first place you can

turn on the manual option in the ipod menu under the preferences tab, then u can just click and copy the songs from ur library to the nano
