As others have said, the laws vary from state to state. Here is a list of states where pet skunks might be legal.
http://www.skunk-info.org/lstates/lstates.htm
and this is a site that tells a lot about having a skunk as a pet, whether it is right for your family or your environment. And how you live with one. As with all wild animals, you have to take certain precautions. Also, too many people get exotic pets and then abandon them when they become too much to handle, so please be sure that you really want to commit to life to such a pet.

Typically its not legal to have a wild animal as pet, but some places may let you. Check with your local Animal Control or the Humane Society.

why would you want a skunk for pet? they stink. aren't you afraid of it spraying you?and i mean...they are not nice animals like dogs. but if you raise it since it's a baby then i don't know about that. but i still don't think it will be very nice

I think it is legal what's illegal is to deprived someone with fresh air if ever your pet skunk is releasing its highly odiferous secretion to thwart predators. So to be relieve with your pet's natural aroma you have to buy some chemicals for neutralizing its odor.

Yes it is, depending on the state. Some states require a license.

yeah, but you have to have the stink glands removed, special breeders all over the place have them. they actually make good pets after the glands are removed, they dont stink any worse than a ferret

I won't repeat everything everyone else has already said. (I've always wanted one too! I wish they were allowed in MN--right next door in WI they're perfectly legal (with requirements, of course.))
