Does that mean you would be open to hiring someone who did not have recent work experience or background in your particular field, yet had proven reliability and adaptability? How willing or unwilling?

Yes its true. Simply because our workforce has become so specialized that companies now have the ability to really choose among potential candidates. And if you could do that, wouldn't you hire the BEST in your eyes? Like having a college degree doesn't really mean much anymore because probably 1000 others have the same college degree as you. It boils down to what the company needs, their perception of what to them is BEST and really how you sell yourself in interviews. My best advice is to be the same. Be as PICKY about choosing a job. Know your strenghts and opportunities as an individual and try to find jobs that would play well into it. Don't set yourself up to fail by seeking jobs that seem to be the wrong fit from the get-go. And above all, set realistic goals for yourself and always keep a positive attitiude! POSITIVISM, that's what we need to make the world a better place.

As I have experienced, most managers have the ability to manage someTHING, but they definitely lack the ability to manage someONE. And that's what it's all about, you need to manage the PEOPLE, because they run the company. If a manager cannot build up a community, strength anf motivation in his team, he's poor. People need to have fun at work, they need to LOVE their job. Managers have to be able to FEEL their employees - and to MAKE THEM FEEL.
Regarding your question, experience is essential to gain adaptability! You can only be prepared to handle and adapt to a situation and to different types of characters when you have experienced something similar before. Humans learn with experience. If they don't, they lack potential...
