FBI statistics are only available for cities and towns over 100,000 people. According ot the data on http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/2005preliminary/05table4.htm
There were 8,927 murders in 2005, an increase from 7,525 in 2004.

The most murders were in New York in 2004: 570. That seems like a lot. Almost 2 a day. I may be over reacting. Aren't guns illegal in New York?

;-D Of course in some places murder is against the law, so there are not as many murders in those places. I think we should pass more laws.
