http://www.bls.gov/ there is a plethora of information for salary info.

It would definitely depend on where you live. 30K a year would be great in parts of the country, but would get you almost nothing in NYC or Philadelphia. San Francisco's cost of living is fairly large too. If you are thinking of relocating somewhere and don't know what to ask for salary, try salary.com, they will compare your current city and salary to another. Also, take a look at "typical" real estate prices for that area, if you want to settle in a new city, you will eventually want to buy a house. If you have a job where you are making 30K and you can get a very nice home for 65K you are doing great, however, if the typical home is 350K that's not so great! Hope this helps. . .

the most i've ever made is 7.50/hr, almost 8.00/hr if i wasn't leaving the job to move back home

for a 19 year old kid in retail and living in MT, that isn't half bad.

for lots of other states i'm sure that would be aweful

for my future i would like to make at least 3X that.
