I'm new to blue light therapy, and my dermatologist recommended it. Is it more to keep acne away, or does it remove scars?

Blue light therapy works. The blue light is just UV light. It kills the bacteria in your skin that causes acne. However, it does not remove scars.

A cheaper and just as effective alternative for blue light therapy is going to a tanning salon. Go to a tanning salon that has facial tanners built into the tanning beds. The light from the tanning bed is the same as the blue light therapy. If you have ever noticed, people that go to tanning salons do not have acne. Trust me, this works.

Blue Light therapy is an effective treatment for this type of acne because it helps to destroy the bacteria that is causing the skin irritation.

I think that the blue light only kills the superficial bacteria that are on the surface of the skin. In order to stop acne you have to prevent from the bacteria contaminating the pore and clogging it. Some times its just genetics that you have skin that is more prone to clogging that is why the bacteria gets trapped and forms a white head.
