Dude. Awesome question.

'78 Led Zeppelin - Yeah, I was way young in '78 and didn't discover them until 1986. I did get to see Page/Plant playing the Zep catalog in the late 90s. That was great. But to see zeppelin in their prime!!! I'm jealous cause my aunt got to see that.

'84 Van Halen - Man, this is the concert that we saw glimpses of in the Panama video. I didn't get to go to this either cause I was too young. But, for my first concert I went to see David Lee Roth solo during Skyscraper era. He was still darn entertaining! But, to see Eddie & Dave in their prime would've been CRAZY!

'91 Nirvana - Wow. I actually DID see Nirvana when they opened for the Chili Peppers during the BSSM tour! I had NO IDEA who Nirvana was (Smells Like Teen Spirit had not yet taken the world by storm) but there was something special about this opening act. Kurdt was wearing a skirt/tutu with pink hair or something rediculous. I don't remember exactly, but I think that someone in the band hurt themselves. They completely DESTROYED the stage.

But, if I had to pick one it would be '78 Led Zeppelin cause I watched Song Remains the Same over and over and over and I wished I could've seen them live.

I have some news for you - there WAS no tour for Zeppelin in '78! And HOW do I know this???! Because in the spring of '77 I stood in line outside the Forum in L.A. for about 24 hrs. trying to get tickets to their concert, which I believe was held in June. After waiting in line ALL day, ALL night, then half of the NEXT day - the crowd started breaking up. I must have still been a half a mile away from the box office when TICKETS SOLD OUT!!!! Boy, was I ever PISSED! I'll never forget it, and I never DID get to see the whole group live.

Subsequently, Robert Plant's small son died of a mysterious illness shortly after the L.A. shows, and the rest of the tour was cancelled. About two years after that, John Bonham also died, and that was the end of it. I really don't think they played ANYWHERE after that '77 tour was cut short!

I DID end up seeing Robert Plant solo in '88, then again on tour with Jimmy Page in '95 - but I sure do wish I'd gotton to see the WHOLE GROUP, intact.

I saw Van Halen more times than I can even remember, including when I lived in Hollywood in the mid-70s & they were a CLUB BAND. Used to see them at the Whiskey, the Starwood, etc., etc., as well as back-yard barbeque parties in the "valley" (San Fernando valley, where they come from). I was FLOORED when I first found out they'd become FAMOUS! Oh yeah, and I saw them on the '84 tour, as well. It was one of the last few times I've seen them....

NIRVANA????! - WHO THE HELL ARE THEY?! Oh yeah, weren't they one of them GRUNGY bands that were around for a short while about 15 years ago??? FLASH-IN-THE-PAN!!!! Don't even come CLOSE to "legendary" status, and, as such, cannot be lumped in as "classic" ANYTHING!!!! They are not even WORTHY of consideration here....

So - to get back to your original question - I'll go with the INNOVATORS - Led Zeppelin - even tho you got the YEAR all wrong!!!!

Saw Zeppelin in the late 70s and Van Halen in the 80s. Both were great concerts, but Van Halen was a lot more fun. But the really GREAT concert of all time was Bob Seger in 78.

Actually I'd like to see Pink Floyd Pompeii. But just because it is not in your answers, I'd prefer 78 Led Zeppelin.
