You should see Casablanca in a theater. My favorite B&W movie. It's really not the same on small screen. I hope you see it. Take my word for it, you'll enjoy it. Anybody in Seattle they're showing it at Museum of flight outdoors very soon, and they have the plane from the movie flying in before the show. I't should be pretty cool. I'm glad you reminded me.

Oh yes, some of the most poignant movies I've seen have been black and white movies. I think part of what makes them more meaningful is when you're watching a black and white movie you're completely tuned into the actor/actress and the script, there are no special effects to distract the eye and ear. I wonder how many actors/actresses today would be as acclaimed as they are if we still viewed movies as we did when they were black and white.

I loved the old glamorous '40 movies. I like to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" in black & White every Christmas.

The Seven Year Itch - The Maltese Falcoln - The Philadephia Story - To Have & Have Not - The Three Stooges - Casablanca -
Some Like it Hot - Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - CLASSICS!
1/2 of the original Wizard of Oz is in b&w

Another good B&W is "Young Frankenstein"

All of us over 50 have seen black and white movies. I remember being 12 (in 1958) and going to the movies and they were mostly black and white. When color movies came out, I just thought that was the neatest thing yet, just like I remember black and white pictures when I was a child (born in 1946.) And when color
film came out I couldn't believe anything could be so fancy and fine! I've pasted a site for the top 10 black and white movies:

Interesting site that tells how b/w movies are colored:

Yes , they are so much better than color movie's it ain't even funny .

I only turn on movies (most of the time now) on AMC American movies classics or TCM turner classics movies.

They also help me develop like a Human being in a messed up world .

They show me how things should really be , an how we should really be.

They calm me , soothe my soul fill my head with good thoughts an pleasant feelings .

They are very rich in plot an etc .

Yes they lack special affects an what not , but what doesn't come with compromise in life .

I have many things with out any compromise , and it just wasn't the same , I (we) need that hurt of compromise its just how it is .

I'm tired forgive me for not telling you more about old movies !

P.S they actually TEACH you not only morals . ethics , being a member of society ,and etc ; but also HISTORY !

P.S old color movies are the same , but if you look at movies you'll notice as time moves on the more decadent they become : ( .

Le Nain Rouge. It is French. Of course most Americans wouldn't bother to see a foreign film unless it is filled with vilence...

The original Night of the Living Dead is in black and white.

Schindler's List was also in black and white.

Sin CIty was for the most part, in black and white.

Gone with the Wind was black and white.

Many of the OLD Godzilla movies were in black in white.

Half of the Wizard of Oz was in black and white...

Really, what are you getting at here? The evils of Ted Turner and colorisation?

Yes I even own a feel. I'd have to say some of the movies were great. You can't beat the humor of the Three Stooges, The Sci-Fi movie Them from 1954, etc etc. I can name a whole list.

Sure, and I have VHS or DVD copies of quite a few. My personal favorites are /The General/ starring Harold Lloyd, and Charlie Chaplin's /The Great Dictator/ and /The Gold Rush/.

If you're interested in seeing some, there are usually classic movie channels on cable TV, or you can look for DVD's on Netflix or through your favorite e-tailer .

Yes, even silent movies with Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton. You gotta love "Modern Times." The slightly more recent "Paper Moon" could have been made in color, but they chose to make it b&w. Great movies.
