It's not neccesary! Jazz is like a more relaxed pop version of ballet. In jazz the move are more relaxed and easier. They will teach you all the basics you need to learn in class. All you gotta know are the spins and positions but that is what jazz is for! jazz is really fun good luck!

My classical ballet training has helped me a great deal, not only with jazz but with lyrical(u should check it out its like a mixture of jazz and ballet and it rocks), ballroom, and many other classes. I have better balance and poise-Ballet can be really boring-I know! I did it for over 9 years and I still am. But ballet really is the foundation for everything and I think some lessons would help ur jazz.
Keep trying though!

Hmm, it depned on the classes you take, the teacher you take from, nowadays, many so call teachers, don't even teach any more they just give you a bad warm up and dance routine!! if you take from the right teacher, form the beg, like Gus Giedano's training, you can still become a great Jazz dancer !! yes, ballet does help!! but it's not a must!!
unleast you enjoy it too!! ballet does help but if you want to be a jazz dancers! take classes with more techinque rather then style!!

It's not necessary, but it helps. Ballet was the first original form of dance, and it has more technique than any other kind. It will really improve your technique and help you to do better in jazz.

Lyrical exchange into defined to me with the aid of fact the affection baby of jazz and ballet. i could choose for the ballet over jazz to commence with. you will learn extra technique which will help with numerous styles of dance with ballet then jazz. you are able to constantly upload training in a protracted time.

well pratically every dance (accept for tap and hip hop) have a ballet foundation. so i think that it would help you in jazz if you took ballet, but it is not absolutely nescary. just remeber that ballet is very challenging, so I wouldn't waste my time if you aren't really interested in it.
