Going braless is "traditional" only because the "ideal" dancer's body is as flat-chested as possible. But real women are not flat-chested. Girls, yes; women, rarely. My guess is that if you're even able to ask whether nothing can be worn underneath, then this is certainly a viable option for you. But many dance students don't have such an option and they are forced to wear some kind of bra for support. Those built-in bras in leotards are only designed to reduce "bumps"; they're not for support. If you bounce while dancing, then you must wear a bra under your leotard and costumes.

Well it depend on what type of leotard it is and how big ur chest is. Most leotards that I buy don't have a built in bra but some do. However i would strongly advise it ur at least a B cup to wear a sports bra. Sometimes when I am dancing things you know get in the way and a sports bra will keep you from jiggling so much and makes it easier. I personally think that wearing a bra looks better for practice then not wearing a bra(esp. if you are dancing with guys too) but for preformances there are special bras you can get.

I would agree that some type of sports bra would be good to wear under a leotard.

No, leotard actually have bra attach to the inside. So there no need to have anything under the leotard expect underwear.

You can buy a leotard with the bra built in, but most really don't need them. The choice is yours. Which is more comfortable for you?

Nothing is traditional, but if you're just starting a light duty sports bra or dance tank is fine too.

I have done photos of dancers.

Usually they wear nothing under their leotard bacause it makes a clean line over the body.
