Good movies of all sorts are hard to come by. Creativity is rare.
Movie Studios want profits and they are not very willing to try new ideas, when it is safer to recycle old "proven" ideas.
It is easier to throw together a lame romantic comedy than to work harder and stretch people's expectations.
Phillip K Dick and Robert Heinlein were responsible for two of you picks, Matrix was influenced by William Gibson.
I would love to see the movie version of Kiln People by David Brin or any of his uplift novels. But they would require better than average directing skills and a vision that would be difficult to find.
Chronicles of Riddick which I thought was brilliant, was buried by the very unscientific and lame "the Day after Tomorrow"
I want Quentin Tarantino to do a Science Fiction movie. I bet he gets it right!

Whoa. I'm 33. Ive seen Robocop. Just because it's older doesn't mean it's better. Geez... have some perspective. I would hate to think there's a 50 year old out there saying that The Blob is better than Planet of the Apes. Or the original THE THING FROM OUTER SPACE is better than John Carpenters remake.. the THING.,

Basically, its becoz the sci-fi industry nowadays is only interested in profit, its no longer about the passion but the cash. The other thing is that we the audience like to compare, like when Solo came out, every1 compared it to Terminator, which was actually a good movie, so lets jst watch and enjoy.

No market for them anymore it seems, Ive taken to reading books and playing video games like Halo, Knights of the Old Republic etc. Almost any sci fi movie now has to have a pretty cast, lots of blood and no story. I was truly looking forward to Aliens vs Predator after reading the comic when i saw the movie i wanted to beat someone ,lol. Guess we will have to read comics again. and dream

Everyone who is making movies now grew up watching the best movies every made, so they go out and try to recapture that, but fail. They are running out of ideas for a great Sci-Fi/Horror movies because you can't top the best, but they keep trying and fail, hopefully one day they will get it right.

I totally agree.
Empire is the best of all the Star Wars movies.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Alien, Aliens, and several others I'm forgetting.
