Girl let me tell you...My Grandpa lives with us right now and he is 92. He has been suffering from Dementia (the early stage of Alzheimer's) for about 10yrs. I know first hand on what to expect and so forth. I also have experience with people like this from working the nursing field and it doesn't get any better!!! I just recently did an entire paper on this for my A & P class and I would be gald to let you read?? You can email me through here if you want??

My grandmother is going through this, it's so bizarre. She sometimes doesn't even seem like the same person, she is easily confused (she thinks her house is someones Else's and she keeps asking me how they got all her stuff there, and how do they know the family). It's very frustrating and sad for the family. Right now she is in the hospital getting some more test done.

I am living through it now. My dad has it. And yes, my mom and I noticed and we put the changes down initially to him being retired and not having any activities to fill his day anymore. But it was AD and we've been dealing with that for over 2 years now.
My dad's obvious symptoms were memory loss and speech difficulties but it strikes everyone a little bit differently. He has also developed an impressive range of OCDs like door locking/checking, excessive anxiety, skin picking, napkin & business card hoarding, everything around him has to be green, cutting up his food into mush, etc.
My "family" is very small. I have a husband, my parents and my grandmother (mom's mom). My grandmother treats my father like a child. My mother is ready to kill him at any given moment--she is with him 24/7 except when I take him with me for a few hours. My dad has no idea who my husband is, and my father's OCD just annoys the hell out of my husband, whose constant refrain is "I don't feel like dealing with your father". I have to adjust to the fact that most days my dad's forgotten my name, but at least he remembers he has a daughter and I'm her.
