Plato once wrote, "Music directly represents the passions or states of the soul - gentleness, anger, courage, temperance...”. From medieval philosophers to modern society, music moves people. Music has a way of affecting humans that no other art form can, it becomes part of the human instead of the human becoming part of it. Various styles of music affect mankind in different ways. Anthems stir us to pride and duty, hymns cause us to reflect upon a higher spirit, and rock n’ roll gets our hands clapping and our feet tapping. These reactions are caused in part to the psychological effect that music has upon the intellect of humans. Music has a powerful influence on the way we perceive the world around us, psychologically and scientifically proven to affect humans in the realms of mood and mind.
Mood and mind, most of us are not used to talking about music in such expansive terms. To understand the impacts upon mood and mind we must first consider the scientific nature of music and sound. There are many profound ways sound and music can affect the physical world. For example, research has found that shrill sounds of high volume can harden proteins in liquid. So a soft egg placed in front of a speaker at a loud rock concert can midway through the concert become a hard-boiled snack for the weary head-banger (Larson, p.116) Repeated experiments have shown that plants respond positively to classical forms of music, actually growing and flowering faster than if there was no music at all. Conversely, louder forms of music, like heavy metal, can actually retard growth and even kill the plant (Tame, p. 144-147). Studies also show that rats have a much more difficult time learning to pass through a maze if they are subjected to hard-rock music than if softer contemporary music is being played (Chagall, p.12). Although humans are far different and much more complex than eggs, plants, and rats, they too are affected by music. This effect is caused by what psychologists refer to as an “encoder.”
The way we perceive and think about the world is due to a component of our brain called the “encoder.” Psychologists have determined that when this encoder is stimulated, so are the thoughts and perceptions of the human brain. This truth is physically suggested by the fact that our auditory nerves are closest to our brain’s encoder. In other words, music has an inside track to the subconscious levels of our mind. When we hear music, our encoders instantly react, causing our moods, mind, and emotions to change (Tame, p. 148-150). This is why at the playing of certain songs our emotions can run high, our eyes can be filled with tears, our feet can start to tap, or our hips can begin to sway. Various types of music will affect our encoders in different ways, but music will undeniably affect both our mood and our mind.

anything by ENYA could help relax you after a stressful day
also ... tom delongs new band ANGELS AND AIRWAVES if listened to in the dark without any external distractions can give you a sense of hope and determination
edit: ok tazmania ENYA isnt purely rock .... listen to it and you should know that its slow drawn out chords and melodies that reflect those of classical music ..... ANGELS AND AIRWAVES is a new band you most likely have not heard about ...... sure theyre not a christian band but seriously you can shut them out .... listen to em before you judge and think heyre another blink 182 ..... if you try to visualize the lyrics copared to the music that is being played then you will get a message that YOU CAN HELP CHANGE SOMEONES LIFE
im not judging your music i have chriastain cds to .... just dont judge somone elses choice of music because of what you think about it ...... you never know ..... you might actually like something you wouldnt expect once .... .open you ears and mind
heres some lyrics for ya in you happen to read up on your answer:
It's like the best dream to have
Where every thing is not so bad
Every tear is so alone
Like God himself is coming home to say
I, I can do anything
If you want me here
And I can fix any thing
If you let me near
Where are those secrets now
That you're too scared to tell
I'd whisper them all aloud
So you can hear yourself
Green trees were the first sign
The deepest blue, the clearest sky
The silence came with the brightest eyes
And turned water into wine
The children ran to see
The parents stood in disbelief
And those who knew braced for the ride
The earth itself then came alive to say
/\ basic stories straight form the bible itself ..... get a lil more christian type music from a non christian band and then you cna judge mine
next time think before you try to trash someone elses music alright ... it would be greatly appreciated

If I wake up feeling down in the dumps and put on melancholy music i`m down the entire day but if i wake up and put on pop or something light hearted I pick up quite quickly.
We held a wake recently and of coarse everyone was down and sombre so I put on some light and easy listening music and the entire mood changed... So yes it defiantly does effect people.

music helps people get through the day so there's different songs for however you feel that day maybe something cheery if your sad or some teenage angst rock if your mad. For me my personal favorite song would have to be "one winged angel" from final fantasy 7 soundtrack.

I LOVE music. I wouldn't be able to live w/o it. even if there was no electricity, I would start singing. If I had to choose between t.v.(with no music stations or videos) and music I choose music.
