I have been offered a job with a start-up that provides me with alot of time flexibility, which I need because I have twin babies, and pays somewhat more than my current job. My current job counter-offered with some more money (though not the same) and an opportunity to reduce my hours and have better flexibility. The reduction in hours reduces the pay, but they did the best they could to counter, including getting me a hefty retention bonus if I will stay. In my current position, I work with very cool, very smart people who I respect and enjoy being around. I also work on cool projects, though what I do isn't always fun. At the start up, these are mostly unknowns- though I know it's a younger, more 'hot shot' kind of atmosphere. The technology isn't as exciting as my current job, but I suspect it will be challenging at least for a while as they are getting off the ground. I'm so torn that I'm asking the yahoo 'ether' for advice. My friends are split and my husband is good with either.

Be happy. That's the best answer - you need to work in an enviornment that will make you happy. I'm in an environment that doesn't make me happy and currently looking for a change -my health has declined and my overall mood has turned negative.
The new job sounds like a lot of fun and a change of pace - but you'll lack one thing; job security. If it's a start up, there's a 90% chance it will fail unless the business plan is good and they follow through with that plan.
The current job sounds even better because they appear to see your value as an employee by using the retention methods. You weren't threatening them and just told them the truth - and they listened, which is rare in the workplace.
Tough decision.
I would stay at your current job - you have a family to support. But don't take my word for it :)
Be happy.

As you seem to be enjoying the job you have and they definitely value you as they made a counter-offer to make you stay. As there are cool projects maybe you will get the opportunity to move more towards that in the future?
I think the instability of a start up company combined with twins at home would make me waver towards staying where I am for now. Also if you are being headhunted now you are probably likely to get more offers in the future.
In the end make the decision with your heart and mind combined. What position will make you happy in the long run on all levels, financially, work wise and also at home?
Good luck whichever one you choose.

Stay with your job your at now. I am not sure what you do, but I am guessing its IT/web design/graphic artist, or something similar. Those kind of companies come and go everyday. You don't want to be stuck with twins and jo job 3 months from now.
Besides, you have no idea of what kind of working environment you will have at the new place. Boss and co-workers could be complete idiots, abusive, even to the point where it costs YOU your job for THEIR mistakes. Bombhaus is right, maybe someone there just plain wont like you for whatever reason, and the boss will fire you. Why risk it?
Stay with your current job, take the raise and bonus, and "Face the demons you know".

Stick with your current job. It will be stress free as you will not have to adjust to a new setting. Your co-workers are great and your employer has offered flexibility. You do need stability now with two babies at home and I think accepting your current employers offer will be the best choice for you.

If you leave your current job with professional respect and courtesy and you take the new job, if it doesn't work out, perhaps you can go back to your old job. The new job is offering you what they decided you are worth. The old job is trying to retain you, but what will happen at raise time? If they are doing the best they can?
If you are truly torn, I would try the new job and keep good relations with my old job. In case I wanted to go back there. Good Luck!!!

Stay with your current job.
Even though the startup means loads of fun and more pay, will it also most likely mean overtime.
You will be working from home keeping deadlines and even if it sounds more flexible, your babies will suffer....
When your kids are older you will have this chance again, I'm sure.

Stay with the stability. Your new job might not like you or who knows. They could show you the door at anytime for no reason. Of course, your best solution would be to start your own business or invest in a business of some kind, but you might not quite be there financially yet.
