It all depends on how long you'd like to stay. From what I know, usually you'd only need a visa if you're planning on staying for more than 3mo., but it also depends on the country so you're going to be needing to find out whether or not you'll be needing a visa for more than a month since it is requirement for some countries. I'm not really familiar with Hong Kong's rules, but yeah for visas and passports, I suggest you use http://travel.state.gov/visa (visa) and as for a passport, you should do that at a post office, they have forms there, and it'll take around 6-8wks to receive it unless if you want to speed up the process and get it in the same week, it'll cost like $127 total. They'll also take the pictures for you if you want (it's requirement for 2 2x2 photos of you facing the camera straight on and you're head has to be bigger than an inch but less than 1 3/8 I believe if I remember it correctly. It should cost you around $97 total). Not just that but visas actually take a very long time to obtain and process so I suggest you work on that at least 6mo. in advance. If you have anymore questions you can just email me.

you 1st need a passport..

go to your post office.. ask for a passport form.. fill it out .. mail it in.
costs about 60$ or so..

then you'll need a visa.. go to the yahoo search engine..and type in "japanese embassy in Washington DC" .. their website should come up. They'll have the info on how to get ur visa... not sure how much that will cost you.. it varies country to country.. to visit brazil its $100.

once you get your visa .. you'll have 90 days to use it or .. enter japan. if japans requires you have have one..

good luck
