Extensive viewing of television violence by children causes greater aggressiveness. This does not mean that violence on television is the only source for aggressive or violent behavior, but it is a significant contributor. Comment on it.

Media communicates messages. Television portrays images of violence and reinforced by more than one programming and method ie video games. Put together the bigger message being sent out is that violence is the NORM. Children view issues reolves through violence, justice taking a form of, revenge by taking into ones own hands...produces the message that violence is a viable mean to conflict resolution

Certainly viewing the violence on television and in the movies provides the child with thoughts of "this is how to solve problems"...but it is the parents' job....indeed, duty...to educate their children on the proper way to behave and the proper way to solve problems. As well it is the responsibility of the parents to remind the child that television & movie violence isn't real. Also, as you stated, telivison violence is not the only source or cause for aggressive or violent behavior, but surely it does contribute.

Television is a role model as the "babysitter" for children. Viewing violence as a means to an end or resolution can be learned at the dial instead of mother's knee. Such viewing desensitizes the person to consequences and in some way give permission to use this method to resolve problems.

The fact is, we don't know if violence on tv causes agression in children.

We do know there is a statistically significant positive correlation between children who watch a lot of violence on tv and aggressive behavior. "Statistically significant" means that the correlation does not occur by chance. There is something going on. "Positive correlation" means that as one behavior goes up (watching aggressive tv) the other behavior goes up as well (being aggressive), however, a correlation does not reveal the direction of the cause. Aggressive tv might cause aggressive behavior or aggresive children might watch more aggressive tv to begin with. We do not know.

I agree with that assertion.
Exposing acts of violence thru tv to children can be a significant factor to the way they behave later and even affect their perception of violent acts and affect them in the future as an adult. They might jump to the conclusion that agreements can only come to a resolutoon by resorting to aggressive actions.
