I've experienced this in my family and I've seen it in other families. My theory on this (and I could be wrong) is that when someone is a deadbeat, trouble-maker and "no good" they are a negative reflection on the family, as a whole. So, everyone quietly works within an unspoken agreement to shield that person from too much scrutiny from the outside. The ones who are trying or are doing well don't need that "covering" so they are left to fend for themselves regardless if they actually need family assistance or not. It makes absolutely no sense to me, but I've seen it and experienced it first hand countless times.

I dont know .why they are like that illness I suppose and it sounds cruel but all you can do is ignore them and help yourself. even if it means getting away from all of them and making a new family, it can be done. I also know it is eaiser said then done because i am in the very same boat. i think they are all loosers I know that sounds harsh but I have been dealing with that for so long. I love them and never get it returned no matter how hard I try and no matter how much I know is bull sh*t I never get out of the crap

Good question I've been trying to figure that out for years. I guess they think that by helping them maybe they'll get a clue and start helping themselves. But all they are doing is allowing them to continue. Tough love would be the better route. In some cases.

becuase they know or think you are strong and indepedant and want you to keep up the good work. but, yes we need validation of our achievments at the sme time, pat yourgelf on the back. dont be afraid to ask for help when needed. some times little things that we can do give them the sence that they are needed and their opinion counts makes them feel better, you will get the kudos eventually. its hard for them , helping the others makes them feel good about themselves so feel good about you
