and cooperation fated to passivity and lack of production?

Production in any sense, whether commercial, personal, what have you. Questions about the productivity of production will make make baby Jesus cry.

Is production possible without cooperation? Can an individual produce anything?

You might want to argue that an individual doesn't invariably need help to produce something, but that depends on how you define help. We are social and traditional animals; if what one of us does requires no present help, it certainly requires the help of those who have gone before us.

Name a walk of life that has no tradition behind it. Everything produced is built upon the past, and most of what is produced is also produced in cooperation with others.

An 'original genius' is a genius in some sort of pre-extisting context. "A genius starts at the top and works up."

If you have arguments to the contrary I would be very interested to see them.

The best thing for production is a common enemy, or at least a threat of common enemy, that forces productive cooperation.
Cold War was one the most productive periods in history. Antagonism between two camps cause unprecedented cooperation within the camps.

Antagonism bears the potential for either production or destruction depending on the conditions at hand. Antagonism can either better a person through personal/interpersonal conflict or it can lead to the harm of others through violence.

Competition creates the need for cooperation. A healthy economy requires both.

Competition without cooperation is madness. And cooperation without competition will result in mediocrity and stasis.

In terms of one's personal life, I think the healthiest thing is to be in friendly competition with oneself – or with one's own potential.
