3 ppl walk into a hotel the clerk charges them $30, so they each payed $10. later on the clerk realizes he charged them too much so he gives $5 to the bellboy. the bellboy realizes he cant split 5 into 3 so he kept $2 and gave $1 to each of the men, so in conclusion the men payed $9ea. 3x9=27 plus the 2 the bellboy kept so that equals $29....what happened to the extra dollar?

The answer is that there is no missing dollar. Adding $27 and $2 (to get $29) is the wrong operation. They paid $27, $2 went to the dishonest waiter, and $25 went to the restaurant. You have to subtract $27 minus $2 to get $25. There never was a $29; it has nothing to do with anything.
