I can tell you what not to get them. First of all, do not get any movies, electronics or video games. Everything is regionalized now, so if you got them a video game, they would not be able to play it when they got home, (systems and games are not compatible). The only exception to this is computer games, which usually do work regardless. Legos, especially the Bionocles mentioed above, are a good choice for a 9 year old. They are fun, they are a toy that can be played again and again. Also, they are fairly cool and he will probably like him. However, not really so good for the two year old as you can imagine, with the choking risk and all. Sports equipment has the problems of being limited to needing people to play with and difficulty of transport back. Cars are a good choice, though they do not make them quite as nice as they use to.
I think you should be able to find some nice Little People type toys are good for younger kids. They tend to be along the line of legos, but bigger and intended for smaller kids.
Hope this helps!

It seems many boys in the US ages 8-11 (including my son) are really into Bionicles by Lego. The instructions are all pictures, so there shouldn't be a problem with language. (They come from Denmark, anyway, and sell really well in Europe and Australia.) The kids can put them together according to instructions or design their own creatures.
Sports toys would be great, but only if there will be other kids their age to play with.

well i have a son thats almost 2 ,and most boys like cars, trains, bikes,at least anything thats avalible to thier age that moves, since they dont speak english why dont you look for leap pad toys.most of them have lots of variations in language,my son has a toy that speaks both engish ,spanish,i dont know if they make one for people from italy but if you look through the yellow pages(or whatever you think would be useful, like the internet)and look for special stores &/or websites that can sell things like that.though if your looking for a cheaper way to go,go find a store, internet shops cost only 5-10 dollars depending on where you live, you can also try ebay:www.ebay.com you might just find what your looking for there,i hope i could help!

Anything with wheels - cars, trains, etc. The older ones might enjoy remote control cars...my son's 8, and it's his favourite of all his toys. I also recommend outdoor toys since the weather is so great - soccer balls, hockey sticks & nets, rollerblades, bicycles, etc. Good luck and have fun!

Most boys like trucks and anything that goes ZOOM regardless of their age. Painting can be fun too for the older one and even if you got non-toxic paints for the little one, he can create a work of art with his fingers you can hang up and so you'll always remember his visit.
