A cover letter is a proper way to include a resume.. But, make it short and to the point. Including only the most important information that will make an employer want to know more.

Never ever send your resume to an employer without a cover letter. That is like you going to an interview naked. Contrary to beliefs a cover letter is very important as not only does is summaries your skills and capabilities, it is also a way for the employer to get to know you since you argue why you are the best as opposed to other candidates. The answer to your question is that a cover letter is not only relevant but mandotory to improving your chances of getting the interview

A cover letter is usually helpful because you can show a few of your strong pts or qualifications before the interviewer even hits your application. If the job requests a cover letter and resume then obviously send one...if it doesn't a cover letter might be good because it shows u go beyond the bare minimum which is a good quality to have in an employee...

Your resume is a pretty standard piece; you send the same one to multiple people. The cover letter is more of a personal introduction, and should emphasize why you'll fit with the employer. Another way to look at it is that the cover letter is designed to get your resume read in the first place. It has to be perfect, no errors, good ink and paper, folded properly, etc.

Depends on the job. If you're looking to fill an executive position, a brief cover letter can be good form. You tell the prospective employer how you discovered the opportunity and that you appreciate them taking the time to review your resume.

I would assume that you have to personalize your resume somehow - the cover letter is perhaps the best way to do this.
In my opinion, the letter should say something about how you think that you might fit into the company, so that they know that you researched them and you are serious about working there (not just sending out a mass junk mailing of your resume to everyone). Just don't offer them advice on how to improve their operations! (that comes across as criticism).

As long as it has the basic reason why you are applying for the position, then it is fine. Too many people have tried to perform the whole interview on the cover letter and bragged themselves out of a job. Short and sweet has always worked for me.

Absolutely Relevant!!! But don't use a form letter, personalize it and speak the truth. It shows you are serious about the position.

I find that the cover letter helps at job fairs and such. Just your name, current position, and your carrer goals currently. If handing directly to an employer during an interivew, I dont use them

Always attach a cover letter. It fills in the gaps of a resume.
In reality, it doesn't matter...neither of them are read.
