wow! great answers, the cougar is a 2 door countour, just like the navigator is an expedition, the camaro is the firebird, the cavalier is the sunfire, and so on and so on... the cougar shares the platform with the contour aswell as engine componenets along with the Jaguar "s" type and the ford Mondeo and a couple of others.. anyway im going to tell you from personnal experience not from what my friends said or what i think ...well I had a cougar for about 5 years and i wrecked it in the freeway(highway) and it saved my life.. that car has to have one of the strongest shells (body) out there... i crashed with a brand new STi(subaru) and my car's damage was nothing compared to the STi which looked like a smaller mini coper after.. anyway very very safe vehicle...everything about the car was awesome. I lived in SoCal so i was cautious about gas. SO i went with the 4cyl but with a manual transmisson. Anyway the car was great...it's always about the driver and the way you take care of your car.. the 1999-2000 had a problem with the sunroof track breaking but with the 2001 +up it was resolved. The car is very smooth the V6 has enough power. I chose the 4 because i cared about gas prices and ofcourse i loved tuning it. The cougars are front wheel drive, both V6 and 4cyl. They come standard with all power and cd player... the only options are sunroof, moonroof and leather...here's some websites for your researching... oh one more thing, you should not be paying more than 10k for the newest year available which should be like 02 or 03. If you;re going to get an automatic get a V6, the 4cyl automatic is crap and they only made like 900 of them..The 4cyl should be manual transmission no matter what.. anyway let me know if you need more help...

Good car, but depending where you live you may not want the rear traction ( back wheels powering the car) In bad weather your cavalier with front wheel drive will be much safer.
The 6 bangers will get you between 16 and 22 miles to the gallon, do the math and get it, it is a sharp looking car.

It's a decent car. Gets good gas mileage. My problem is it too close in resemblance the the ill fated Probe. Just a personal opinion.

The car may stay in the shop longer than on the road.
Cougar is a 2 door contour, so ask people about contour and you'll see what they say.

They sure do look slicker than a cavalier. I would get one.
