Corruption and perhaps overpopulation. They have natural resources...and the potential for wealth, but everything is consolidated into the hands of a very few.

Well to be honest Mexico isn't poor compared to other countries in the same position. It's just not fair to compare many countries to the U.S. and Canada because as you know the U.S. is a very developed country to say the least. Plus Canada is a U.S. ally so that gives them the upper hand.

Mexico has had some difficulty with it's economy for a long time. They have had revolutions the last being at the turn of the century. They do not have an all around good education system or plentyful natural resources and they have a history of having corrupt governments.

Because the corrupt Castillians in Mexico want it that way. Mexico has the resources to offer its citizens a good life, alas, the power structure there does not choose to allow it to happen.
They choose to export their poor to the USA, they have an agenda.... all I can say is: Hasta la vista, reconquista! It isn't going to happen.

Because they had corrupt politicians ruling the place for the last 150 years or so, who stole all the money. They shoudl be quite rich, considering all of the oil they have, but their corrupt leaders stole it all, and now they expect the US to take in their illegals and give them jobs to allow them to send even more money to Mexico. Pretty sad that we have to help pay for a country that allows itself to be robbed blind by a priveledged few!

The Presidents they have had, the police, and other authorities steal the money. Plus they Don't have government benefits like we do.
