Look around, somewhere you have decaying fruit or vegetables. We had a bad case of them from our pet rabbits, they were breeding in the litter and bedding.Check any potted plants you have indoors.Fly strips, essentiallysticky paper, will work, but i've had better luck baiting the fly strip by sprinkling Kool-aid on the bottom inch, draws them in better.

I used to have problems with fruit flies and other small flies when I lived in the woods and the only thing that seem to stop them was pouring a bit of bleach in the drains at night and keeping the kitchen sink clean. Of course you need to put minimal food items in the trash and you could even rinse some containers out before trashing them so there's absolutely nothing to attract them.

It is time to disinfect. Use a can of bug spray for back up. Remove all damp, soiled matter, such as mops, dish towels, and wash cloths. These small bugs leave itchy bites and tend to find and attach to damp and dirty things. I do not know why they call them fruit flies, because you may not have any fruit in the house. Hell, they'll eat anything so don't leave the bread open or food uncovered. Get gloves, cleaning supplies, and bug spray and you're set. To keep them out completely use Lysol or you could also burn inscents. I am scared of bugs, so I attack. Go Rambo!

Something is attracting them. Get rid of the ones you presently see. Use a strong bleach solution and wipe down all your counter tops and window sills. Run very hot water in all your sink and tub drains. Follow this with a cup of bleach in each drain and allow it to stay for 1 hour. Repeat the hot water for 10 minutes to clear. Use the mothballs suggested above for the next week. That should do it.

Mix some vinegar, sugar and little bit of dishwashing liquid in a bottle and leave it sitting around open. The fruit flies will be drawn to the liquid and drown.

Or beer and dishwashing liquid.

First make sure that you don't have ANY food on the counters. They will stay in bread even if you already have them. Next make sure you don't have any dirty dishes and empty the garbage can. Next I have found that they seem to come from over-ripe bananas. If you have them around try to eat them before they start to ripen too much. That is the best I can help you. Hope it helps. Oh, they LOVE rotten food. Don't leave anything out till they are really gone.

I had a problem with this at work and it turned out to be in a dead plant a colleague had in her cube. We removed the plant and the bugs went away.
