Well, like you have said its true that most of the advancement made has been in the past 200 years. But have in mind that most of these ideas have been running around for centuries. It wasn't until the 1800 that people dared to challenged stigma (religion) and investigate more deeply. There are still many answered questions in every field from philosophy to medicine but every once in a while someone comes up with something new and astonishing. Although 2000 years from now is a long time, it would not be unrealistic to expect having understood and partly dominated genetic engineering at its best, prolonged human life substantially, developed artificial intelligence, and solved the problem of space and contamination. By then depending on some factors (pandemics etc) there will be a few of us or so much we would have to look outside this planet because space is over. Life on this planet still has a long way to go. By the time the sun cannot longer support us and become a red star, we would be advanced enough to scape (I hope). Theories such as time travel and space origin could be better understood.

A completely new understanding of life, what it means, where we came from and what we are here for.

I think that science is moving towards the frontiers of metaphysics. That we are on the cusp of an understanding of the universe that will change the world in a way, that has not been seen by the changes brought by religion, technology or culture. Take string theory for example, right or wrong, it shows that the universe is one extraordinary song, that may or may not be the case, but that's the direction we're moving. If it's right, it transcends science into the spiritual in that our actions create our world. How is that possible, how do 6,000,000,000 have a separate existence and world on one planet. These are the type of questions that I think science could answer.

Read The Singularity is Near by Ray Kurzweil. It's brilliant and very optimistic, and his arguments convince me that we'll solve most or all of the most serious problems facing us today, in the next few decades. By any measure, scientific progress is accelerating rapidly. We'll make thousands of times as many discoveries this century as in the last one.Robotics, genetic engineering and nanotechnology, between them will solve the problems of poverty, pollution, overcrowding, disease, political oppression scarce resources and warfare.

transmutation of any matter into any other matter ( meaning we can disassemble atoms and reassemble them without a catastrophic energy release) we will someday be able to (sort of a basic skill set that we can't avoid learning) but I'm afraid that this will be the end of us when we do
