A definitive fixed step to become an actor? No. But generally, the road to becoming an actor begins with taking acting classes to perfect and mold one's craft. Classes can be in classical theatre, musical theatre, acting for TV/Film, or even classes pertaining to a certain skill (dancing, singing, cooking, etc.).
The education of an actor is also taken into consideration, and not the education of one's skills, but of the art itself. The history, technical, cultural aspects of acting/theatre.
I guess the general steps to become an actor are: research the art, learn the art, then practice the art (getting an agent, auditioning for parts, getting a job).

Just find an agency. They will send you to open calls. Oh yeah and actors have headshots. I think it would be difficult to write an entire paper on the process! Oh yeah and a lot of actors go to workshops.

the process steps are different for most actors, but you should direct your question to the thousands of young attractive waitresses and waiters in L.A. and NYC that are still on step 2.
