To my way of thinking "race" has more to do with color/country, for example human, black, white, italian, chinese, greek etc.
Ethnicity on the other hand has more to do with background/religion, for example Jewish, Mennonite, Amish

Instead of pasting the definitions here, I will save us both some time. When you are in Internet Explorer, and I'm assuming you have the Yahoo toolbar, you should have an icon called "Reference." Click the down-arrow and select American Heritage Dictionary. Type ethnicity in the search box and you will find all the information you need. Repeat for race.

As late as the very early 20th Century, ethnicity and race were considered the same. These days, however, they're two seperate things. Race reflects your physical appearance, say "caucasian", but ethnicity reflects your cultural heritage. Both are artificial social constructs that have no scientific basis for being.

Race is your people. Ethnicity is your culture. One black guy from New Orleans and a black guy from New York City are the same race but different ethicities. A Mexican and a Puerto Rican are both same race but different ethnic heritage. A German and an Irishman are both white, but have different ethnicity.

hey friend, ethnicty and race have a contrast pretty much to understand it, ethnicy is confined to different nations while races are confined among different states of the society. Discrimination among race is in one nation but discrimination of ethnicity is in the world cosisting different nations.

No, not even close. I am black, but I am ethnically american. I can't just start living in Tanzania, b/c I am not ethnically tanzanian. Just like how white south africans will have a tough time living in Romania, even though they are both white, they starting culture, language & identity are completely different.
Which is where people get confused when they start talking about Sudan. They're not arabs, they're ETHNICALLY arab (Which just means that's their community, not their race)

no...though the exact definitions are tough to quantify, and different dictionaries will end up with overlapping definition,s I see race as something based more in genetics and ethnicity having to do with a bit of race but mostly heritage and culture

Linguistically people use the terms interchangeably.
However
I think they are two different things. Genetically speaking all humans are the same race.

No because i have to check white on race and hispanic on ethnicity. I believe race is the genrality of what you are and ethnicity is more defined.
