ok, for the record, read the book, skip the movie.
As far the Mona Lisa is concerned (or la giaconda, as it is properly known), the idea is that Da Vinci painted his paintings with subtle clues in them. Some scholars have said that the subject of the painting was pregnant at the time of the sitting, hence the sly grin and covering of the lower torso. In the book, it is speculated that the secret is that the mona lisa is very asexual, almost hermaphroditic, which is in keeping with the big push of the book.
The movie stinks, by the way...

i read the book and watch the movie. here is all that i could remember, (may be not only from da vinci code as i read others abt mona lisa)

1. Critics or some believe that Mona Lisa is a potrait of Davinci himself (of cos in a female form)

2. It's not even the best (or so masterpiece) of Davinci by critics, it's famous just becos DVC always carry it wif him wherever he goes and said that this is his favorite drawing of all time

3. DVC painted the Left side of background landslide lower so that if you look at Mona Lisa (the person) from Left side it looks bigger

(Left represent feminine)

4. It's smaller than one expects when you see the actual painting

5. Davinci Code claims that perhaps the misery smile of Mona Lisa is that she knows the secrect of Maryln Madelene and the church surpressing on feminine worships by erasing of her from the bible.

6. Why the movie kept showiing is probably bcos Davinci is most well reconize by Mona Lisa and actually it's not only Mona Lisa but also other paintings by Davinci has some hidden clues to the main point of the story.

That's abt i could remember of Mona Lisa. For the whole book, it's best that you read it. cheers!!

From what i hear the mona lisa was of course made by Leonardo DaVinci and they say he had a code written inside her expression. But critics say it sucks.

Its a long, complicated and fascinating story. I would reccomend reading the book not seeing the movie. The book is a lot better and has so much more detail.
