He was the first to have groupies. Many women fainted when he performed. Most swooned. He was the first performer to have girls throwing their panties on the stage. And he was the first pop star to be recognized and well known in many countries.

Go for it!

I was GOING to say Rudolph Valentino, because way back in the 1920s, he had THRONGS of fanatical female fans.

But since you threw the bits in there about the panties & the piano, I knew that couldn't be who you're thinking of!

Let's see...it can't be Frank Sinatra, because he wasn't a piano player; in fact, I don't believe he played a musical instrument at all - just sang. And Elvis wasn't a piano player, either! Elton John? He's DEFINITELY a "pop icon" at the top of MY list, but there were many icons before him.....

.....so WHO could this person be???! It would have to be either Little Richard or Jerry Lee Lewis. I'm gonna take a WILD GUESS, and say it MUST be LITTLE RICHARD!

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

He was quite the superstar. In spite of his fame and talent, he was never wealthy. A friend once called on his house to find he and his wife waltzing to keep warm because they couldn't afford to heat the house.
