I have played the organ at church for 5 years and it never fails that someone complains about a tempo or a musical style of my hymn playing and other service music. Does anyone no what is a good approach to handeling this problem.

You can please some of the people ALL of the time,
You can please all of the people SOME of the time,
But you'll NEVER please ALL of the people ALL of the time.
It's not a problem, it's just a fact of life.
Just smile and apologize, empathize and sympathize. If you've been there five years and the Pastor hasn't fired you, you're okay.

Just look at all the different people here on answers and how everyone has different music tastes and opinions on different music.
Its the same at your church. People have certain ideas on how music should be played and interpreted.
I agree with the poster above if your pastor hasn't complained then you don't have a problem.
Listen, smile, maybe ask them how they would of like to have that certain hymn played, then either use their critisism and learn from it or ignore it, whichever the case may be.
As long as the majority of the congregation are enjoying your music then hey! no problem!

Play them some Slayer tunes. They will complain about that too, but they'll never complain about hymns again.

tell them to play it themselves then....but if not....then ask them to please be more specific and tell you exactly what they want
