I'm thinking about buying a Scion XA soon and was wanting to see if anyone has anything good or bad to say about this car...about proformance, gas milage...anything at all!!

I own one and it's a great little car. People who say they are "slow" don't know how to drive obviously. I bought the manual transmission and suggest that.

Gas mileage in the real world averages about 33-35 mpg. I can actually cram an entire mountain bike inside if I take the front wheel off.

Improvements? I would suggest a rear sway bar (about $125, easy as pie to put on yourself), and better tires and wheels (also for handling).

SUMMARY: Great commuter car, great city/metro car, okay for small family (one kid), Toyota quality throughout. Not so great for driving cross-country but certainly doable.

For $14,000, this little car is a steal.

Downside? The engine gets a bit loud after 75 mph (nothing that a satellite radio didn't cure!) and the fuel mileage goes down after 65 mph. No cruise control available but you can buy aftermarket.

It's amazing how people answer questions when they know nothing.

First, to the previous answerers: there are 3 Scions: the box - xB (and you have to drive one to appreciate it. just drive it around the block once, you may still not like, but you'll come away with a better understanding of why it's been such a huge hit), the small one - xA (the one she's asking about), and the coupe - tC (outstanding 2 door for less than 18k!)

Now that that's cleared up, the xA is an outstanding 14k car. Great milage, loads of standard features (pwr windows/locks and ABS being the big ones), low maintaince cost (Toyota, what can you say....oh yeah, no timing belt to replace for $600 or more at 60-90k mi or leave you stranded when it breaks...and small inexepensive tires). Just gas and go, and replace the oil every 5k mi.

A neighbor has 2 of them in the family. Says they get great gas mileage and roomy.

For me, I don't drive anything that resembles a brick on wheels.

TOO SMALL AND SLOW!
DON'T WAIST YOUR MONEY ON A SCION. BUY AN ACURA OR HONDA!!! YOU'LL SAVE MONEY ON GASOLINE AND THEY ARE FASTER. :)
