Will I be able to charge the iPod completely, put songs on it, etc. with the slower one I have now? (I plan to get the high speed, I just can't yet.) So far, no luck, so maybe I'm just doing something wrong. It seems like it has been trying to charge forever. :(

Yes, I already do have a usb port-- just not a high speed one. That's why I am asking if it will work with what I have now, instead of having to wait until I get high speed usb...

yes you can use it.. USB and the USB high speed you were referring to is USB 2.0 and the normal on is USB 1.1. They are backwards compatable.. Just the speed might get annoying after awhile..

if your computer is fairly new.. Go to the companies site and see if you can install new drivers.. Sometimes all that is needed is new drivers to update your USB to USB 2.0

If it's a new computer, 2.0 should already be installed. Read your owners manual. As far as getting USB 2.0, it's cheap. $10 to $30 for something 40 times faster than 1.1, is a good deal.
If your PC came with 2.0, then there is no need to go around searching for drivers, 'cause they would already be there. You don't need to install drivers if you have XP with SP2 anyway, SP2 supports 2.0. Even SP1 does!!

Then go to the local library and check out their media section and see what Cd's they have. Bring the ones home that you want and rip them to your ipod. I have an 8GB MP3 player and have ripped about 40-45 albums that I own to it so far and still have about 6GB of room left. You can also rip audio books to them.
