irish bedtime stories tell us that a pot of gold is at the end of a rainbow, left there by a leprechaun.
however, scientifically speaking, nothing is at the end of a rainbow... and you wont be able to get there. a rainbow is only a reflection of the rain.... this is why when it rains in one place, a rainbow is found not in that place where it rains... but on the next road, block, village or whatever place.
to better understand it, can you imagine yourself looking at a mirror where a the room doesnt have any light? the mirror acts as the rain... and you are the rainbow... when there's no sun, there's no rainbow.....

Scientific: It' actually a complete circle with no beginning and no end. Which leads right into the non scientific answer: it is the symbol for "hope" The promise of a newness, of what is yet to come.

Actually (although from our perspective you can't see it) a rainbow is actually a circle. So there is no beginning and no end.
