It was legal in most countries including the United States for a long time. It still is legal in some countries. The powers that be made it a federal crime in the USA and since then it has been illegal here. Your point is well taken and is a good defense of the Mormon belief that with everyone in the families consent, it is not necessarily offensive to God when circumstances warrant it. ie. times when righteous men greatly outnumber the faithful women in a culture due to loss of life in the male population due to warfare, persecution, etc. You made a very good observation. For now, it is not warranted here in the USA.

They also had concubines. So they had sex with women they were not married with. Doesn't the bible talk about adultery pretty harshly? David murdered a man so he could take his wife...doesn't the bible have some pretty tough stuff about murdering like eye for an eye...

Absolutely!! Now, I'm not saying that everyone should do it, but there is no reason for it to be illegal. If a culture / society / community wants to practice it, why not? I think it's great.

Polyanny (having more than one husband) should also be legal.

Sure. I don't think it really needs biblical justification. Why should people not be able to have the legal protections of marriage with multiple people? I don't see the harm it does.
