It is different for every woman. DO NOT let anyone scare you. I have 3 children and it was different each time but never horrible or unbearable. The cool thing is your body will release endorphins to help you deal with the pain and it will block the memory of the pain later so it won't matter. Just don't tell yourself it's going to be awful before hand, or it will be.

The worst pain of labour was no worse than really bad menstrual cramps. The best advice I ever got was from my doc who was out of town when I went into labor. He called from Florida and talked me through a few contractions. He said every time the contraction started to just "go limp" and breathe without tensing up. (The tensing up against the pain can push the baby's head against the cervix and cause it to swell instead of dilate.) Anyway, this was the most effective advice I ever got.

All of this aside, it IS uncomfortable but it is not unbearable... don't listen to horror stories.

a lot of people say that it's a pain you forget. NO it is not. you will ALWAYS remember it. i was lucky enough to have a spinal with my first. but with my 2nd there wasn't enough time and i went natural. it hurt like all hell! BUT i will tell you one thing, if i am ever blessed again, i would probably go natural again only b/c of the following reasons: it is something that you CAN get through. i don't think it's a pain that you cry over. and your labor goes faster without the spinal or epidural (had my daughter with 3 pushes in less than 1 minute from the time my dr said push). if you don't have a high tolerance for pain, take the drugs by all means!

good luck!

Its been three years ,but I will do my best. Please remember that every pregnancy/delivery is different. For me, at the beginning the first contractions felt like period cramps( they were very light and just slightly discomforting ) Than they started to get stronger. It felt like the worst period cramps ever. Toward the end the cramping got so bad ( it felt like I had huge twisting , tightening knots in my belly ) I couldn't handle it anymore ( I have a ' no tolerance level' when it comes to pain ) I got the epidural ( sorry , can't spell that ) After that it was easy ! I wanted to have another one , right after I had my daughter. ( until I was exhausted because of lack of sleep lol ) Its worth it though ! I can't wait to have more children ! They make life so much better ! Good luck !

Labour pains are different for every mom. If they are in the back, they can feel like a bad backache or a throbbing stabbing pain. Front labour feels like menstrual cramps to start, then also go to a throbbing stabbing pain as well. Every woman is different and every pain is different., Good luck!!

anybody's contractions sense distinctive so which you need to be headed in the direction of the transport room quickly! Like PP mentioned, time the discomfort and sense your tummy for tightening. some women folk do no longer even finally end up feeling contractions till they're in basic terms approximately thoroughly dilated. some women folk additionally don't have common contractions and purely finally end up with lower back hard artwork (this is oftentimes VERY painful from what i've got heard). no person or maybe hard artwork is a like so don't be shocked in case you're no longer have the textbook signs and indications of hard artwork. despite if the discomfort isn't coming oftentimes and you will't decide for particular what the gasoline discomfort is, this is recommended to call your well-known practitioner with the aid of fact i'm particular they have seen in basic terms approximately each thing and might inform you what is going on. sturdy success!

I had back labour until they did the c-section. Back labour feels like twinges or back pains that are not quite in the right place, and very rhythmic. It wasn't that bad until I started getting tired, and was trying to fall asleep between contractions. My mum & husband worked hard to keep me awake so the contractions wouldn't wake me up from a doze.

Your stomach tightens up so much you can see it. It feels like it is balling up. In addition to that it feels like you have menstral cramps from hell and my hips and lower back felt like they had been run over by a truck! But, the second I laid eyes on that beutiful baby....it was all gone. A few hours of pain is so worth a lifetime of joy!

Labor pain feels like period cramps a 1000% amplified and sometimes it feels like the baby is coming right out the other hole. it is painful but as soon as the baby comes out there is no pain. It is time to breathe and enjoy baby and sleep while you can.
