I got an iPod Nano and discovered that my USB port is not high speed and it doesn't seem to really be charging the iPod. It really sucks. I heard there is an adaptor I can get, instead of a card, but I don't know for sure. Thanks for any help I can get...

You might have heard that there is a "High Speed USB hub" that is "compatible with USB 1.1". What that means is that if you've got a USB 2.0 port and you stick the hub in, you've got four (or however many) USB 2.0 ports. If you stick it into a USB 1.1 port, you'll have however many working USB ports - but they'll work like USB 1.1 ports.

However, you said that your iPod's not charging - that's got nothing to do with the speed. If you're using a USB port on the front (not that there were very many computers with USB 1.1 ports on the front), try one in the back - sometimes they work better. If it's not charging at all, it's probably the iPod or the cable. You can find a service center here: http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service.html

You can get a USB 2.0 card if you want, and it will be a few times faster, but flash memory isn't very fast no matter what you connect it to (so ignore anything you see about "40 X Faster!!!") - the odds are pretty good that you won't want that old computer long enough to justify upgrading it just for the difference you get. And if it really is your computer's fault that it doesn't charge, you can get an iPod power adapter for not much more (less if you work at it on eBay) and keep it charging wherever you go.

You can buy a USB-2 adapter board that plugs into the PCI slot of your computer.

You'll have to open your computer, remove the bracket from the slot cover, plug this board in, then install the driver software. You'll have additonal USB ports as well as what is already on your PC.

No!!! What you need, is to install a USB 2.0 PCI card to your PC.
Relatively cheap, and easy to install. $10 to $30, available at most computer stores and home electronics places.

rule of thumb - can ALWAYS go from UP to DOWN - but never DOWN to UP.... with anything having to do with computers stuff. However, I bought a USB 2.0 card and stuck it in my PCI slot and wallah - USB 2.0!!!!
