If Santa could really be taken out of Christmas, I mean no presents, shopping, etc. for one year, would the world really go to h*ll? Would a truly religious Christmas be the end of the world?

My parents explained it like this to me: Santa is the *spirit* of Christmas. That's how he can be everywhere at midnight. So, yes, we could have a purely religious Christmas, but Christmas as it is now serves other purposes. It's a time of coming together, and sharing joy and giving. It's a beautiful time. I think we've gone over-board on the commercial end of it, but I think the whole Santa-stockings-tree-candy canes-carolling-giving simple gifts is a beautiful part of our culture. We can still have the beauty, and cut down on the commercialism.

I think the spirit of Santa Claus is fine, it's the commercialism that has gotten attached to Christmas that is the problem. To answer your question, no it would not be the end of the world - I think it would be the beginning of a happier, more peaceful one.

...Then there would not be long line of children in the malls during the Christmas season. Just because there isn't some old fat man to worship doesn't mean that Christmas would end. Christmas is about the birth of Christ.

If it wasn't for Santa, My bosses wife, Mrs. Brady would never have gotten her voice back in time to sing at the Christmas Eve service.

If Santa were taken from Christmas... I think our economy would suffer even more than now BUT i believe that God would reward our country, state, city, town, county, home or whatever accordingly

Nah, but the Christian cults have made such a big deal out of this for so long that a Christmas without the loot is like a Baptist without the dunking.

yes, you would destroy a whole industry that revolves around christmas like selling christmas trees and paraphenelia, think of the economic devastation taking away the commercialization of christmas would cause, why it would be downright communist, the epitome of anticapitalism and just plain unamerican
