Do you think television will ever return to the good old days of critically acclaimed shows like Mary Tyler Moore, MASH, The Carol Burnett Show just to name a few?

Although the Golden Age of the Situational Comedy can now only be ascribed to via DVD or Nick at Nite, I fear their return (no matter how schlocky) is not coming soon. Due to its cheap cost and virtually hundreds of thousands willing to debase themselves before a national (or world) audience for 15 minutes of fame and a handful of cash and prizes means the beast of RealityTV is here to stay (or at least leave its piddlings on your living room carpet) for quite awhile.

Reality TV is a farce, and for some reason there are millions and millions of dumbfounded idiots that tune into this garbage every week. I have never been one to get into this hype if you will, I like the older shows like Cheers, Seinfeld, Sanford and Son, and other things of that sort. I am antireality for the simple reason that the only thing that is real about it is the people, not even most of the oddball situations are real I mean how many of them are live or even have been at one point. Even doing a Sitcom live is extremely hard to do because everything has to go great to try and get a good show. That is where Editing comes into play, well that seems like enough ranting or was this raving?

I think that both exists on television today. Yes, there are way too many reality shows, and most of them arent very good. A few of them are entertaining (Amazing Race is probably my favorite), and I can understand the appeal of a show like American Idol.
But we dont need 20 or more on television...cut them down to one or two, or leave them on cable.

However, I disagree with your premise that there arent great television shows on now. The Sopranos is considered one of the great television shows for any time period. You had shows like The West Wing, Frazier, Deadwood, ER, NYPD Blue, Seinfeld, Deadwood, Arrested Development, all just to name a few. All of these shows are highly regarded. Yes you may get a lull of shows time to time, but every few years you get a new batch of great shows.

As for this fall, I'm excited to see Aaron Sorkin's newest show staring Bradley Whitford and Matthew Perry - and the final season of the Sopranos.

I miss good sitcoms too. There is not one sitcom on today that I watch. To laugh, I watch Mind of Mencia, but that's not the same. People are just not the same. We've had so many years of television telling us what we like that now we don't have any choices. Cable TV (TNT, USA, HBO) has better shows than the regular networks for sitcom.

I like some shows I love Americas Got Talent and anything on MTV. I also like shows on E and Style. How old are you anyways? Times changes and so does TV.

I'm not, because I don't watch it. Except Home Makeover, Extreme Edition. I like that show.
I didn't used to watch TV much at all, but I gotta say, I really like Monk, Psyche, and The 4400.

To be basic, and it quite is in simple terms my opinion, yet i in my view like actuality television. i assume because of the fact an excellent style of sitcoms have become canceled and not many have quite taken off presently, i've got lost interest in them. the explanation why i admire actuality television is the reality that it quite is unscripted and consequently unpredictable like some sitcoms tend to be.
