That isn't enough words.

I didn't read the book, but I did see the movie.

There were two main characters: a desperate, dingy teenage girl, and a disciplined, honorable pilot.

The setting: mostly in the shuttle that the girl had stowed away within, not knowing that her weight would affect the landing ability of the craft (it would crash because of her extra 150lbs).

Once the pilot discovered her presence on board, he had to figure out how to loose the extra weight without killing her. He was transporting badly needed medicine to a colony. He eventually jettissoned even the medicine trying to save the girl, but it didn't work. The ship was already in it's prep-for-landing cycle, and the extra weight was already affecting it's ability to land. The pilot had to eject the girl to avoid crashing the ship.

Her unthinking, selfish action killed not only herself, but other people on the colony, who didn't get the medicine. The pilot was brought up on charges of murder and causing a general strike.
