I would talk with your mom or close female friend, who already are using a pad/tampon. Pads/Tampons come in different sizes depending on your menstual flow.
Both will have instructions how to use them.
I had a girlfriend walk me through the instruction using a tampon (age 15). I was in the bathroom & she was outside of the door.
You might just start off with a pad & work your way up to a tampon which I did (pad/age12).
Also your school gives Health & Sex Education in 5th Grade.

its fine . dont worry. the first time it wont be that bad it most deffinitly wont go through your clothes so dont worry about tht. and really ppl are always telling me OMGAH its sooo horrible but i got it a few times and its really NOT that bad. it goes away in a week and its really not that horrible. if you get bad cramps which you probably wont until youve had it for like a year then take a midol theyll go right away or an ibuprofin. also wear a pad the first time you get it. when you get it a few times and your used to it and you think your comfortable then you can try tampons but i woudlnt jump into that. jjust keep a pad in your purse until you get it. its really not bad. the pad just goes into your undies and sticks there. and a tampon if you read thelittle packet inside the box it should hekl[p you can also use a mirror if you cant find the thing lol. stick to pads for a while. and change them every 6 hours unlses your period is heavy then change it more. you really dont know until you get it what im talking about but dont worry youll undeerstand. if you swim alot then try tampons. but its probably only gonna last 4 days your first few periods. and if your second one is like 2 months after the first dont worry your body isnt fully used to the cycle yet and it may be all off the first year. dont worry. if you have more questions emial me. nikitajeter@yahoo.com

I too agree with the nurse but here is a site that might help you with your questions about it.http://www.kotex.com/na/talk/teen/help/
also you can go to ask.com and type it in there the best thing to do is talk to your mom or a close relative about this. as for what you need you should start out with a pad not a tampon as they are for when you get older and become more regular my personal favorite is stay free ultra thin with wings and for using them you should ask and everyone is different on what the like it took me awhile to find something i like try a few and see what works for you

well first of all i love your email lol. anyway to be completely truthful it's miserable. it's uncomfortable and gross. i mean it depends how your is and how you feel about ........well what it is... but it's annoying and makes you tired, irritable, self concious (incase you have an accident) and gets in the way of fun activities. i'm a negative person and i can't help it but really thats just how i feel. i can't really explain the process of tampon application but all you do with a pad is stick it in your undies. yea well good luck with it sorry i really couldnt help you.

are you able to talk to your mom or a close female relative? it's hard to truly instruct you on pads/tampons through writing. If all else fails, you can also talk to your doctor or school nurse, they can tell you all the info you need to know.
