I wasn't sure if you were looking for original ideas...... but, here goes.....

Red: To Serve Sebastian: A Cookbook (written by AND starring the lobster of Little Mermaid fame)

Black: The Hole in the Cave at the Bottom of the Abyss: The Ultimate Thrill-Seekers Handbook (you're not coming back from this one)

White: The Light at the End of the Tunnel.... NOT (one woman's experience with a divorce attorney)

Blue: I'm Depressed. You're Depressed (heavy reading, so make sure you are up for it)

Purple: How To Do Drugs the Jimi Hendrix Way (subtitle: And Live to Tell About It)

Yellow: Smileys Gone Wild (drunk, naked smileys......rated XXX, of course...... with an accompanying infomercial)

Green: True Confessions of a Praying Mantis (nuff said)

Orange: Spontaneous Combustion Man and the Fire-Breathing Dragon (ouch)

Gray: Yahoo Answers Top Ten Lists (Limited Edition, thank goodness)

I had LOTS of fun with this..... thanks!! : )

Having worked in publishing, I can tell you that a LOT of thought and effort goes into cover art. The marketing people must have data that show it makes a difference, and I think for some books, it might. But a book by a popular author? Well, would you have cared what the cover of the last Harry Potter book looked like? They also worry a lot about titles. And, again, with popular authors, you could call the book "Stephen King's Latest Book" and it would be a best seller anyway. Personally, I care a lot more about what's inside the book.

all purple colored books are about symantics and syntax. that i can tell. Mein kampf was in black and "disgrace" by coetze was in white. The story line however was as stark/ideological as mein kampf and "communist manifesto" which was in red.
I think only fiction rely on color while non-fiction/classic is random.
