What exactly is the purpose of the Bohemian Grove that all U.S. President's attend every July in California? Pagan rituals, devil worshipping, human sacrifices? For what?

Held over 17 days in July, it's an all-male retreat that's been going down in a Northern california forest since 1878.

The Grove is the wooded outpost of San Francisco's Bohemian Club, a Republican-leaning arts club with a decades-long waiting list to join.

About 2000 guests are treated to near constant artistic performances, plays, skits, classical recitals, etc. Shirtlessness is an unfortunate tradition - as is skinny-dipping in the Russian River.

Every Republican president since Hoover has been in attendance, including the current Bush.

the stranges ritual is the Cremation of Care, meant to symbloize separation from society and entrance into boozy, shirtless forest play.

At the end of the nearly hour-long performance, a foty-foot owl (which in the 90s was voiced by Walter Cronkite) tells cast members in hooded robes to set fire to an eerily lifelike body in a coffin. They do, and everyone gets drunk

From what I understand, it seems to be a secret society somewhat like Freemasons. Check out the link below.
