I know I am. What Americans call football is a stupid game where a bunch of meatheads run around. And why the hell is it called football? They touch it with their hands!

DEFINITELY. Football/soccer is named because people actually mainly use their feet to control the ball. The only times American football players really use their feet in a game are when they're running around the field. I personally think football/soccer deserves the name more.

First, of course liking a sport or not liking a sport is a matter of personal preference and opinion.
Second, my preference is basketball and my opinion is that both kinds of "football" are lame and boring.
Third, no, I am not tired of Europeans mistaking soccer and football or Americans mistaking their "football" and Europeans' "football." The rules are different enough that most folks can tell them apart. About the only ones who really get them mixed up are people who don't give a rat's hair about either game.

The American game was established before association football was invented. In the early days, there was a greater emphasis on the kicking game than there is now. The game has evolved but the name has stuck. When association football was in it's early days, an Englishman by the last name of Brown, wanted a different name for the sport and came up with soccer. So, in summary, America gets blamed for being original AND inventing a name it has nothing to do with. You don't have to believe me, just check it out. It's all over the web.

Everyone has the right to choose what sport they like....I live in Canada and American football is very popular here and I respect the people that love and can actually play the game, it's not a stupid or easy game to play@Schizm ..you say the Americans don't appreciate soccer..do you appreciate football?? Don't pretend others to do what you don't do!!!

Shut up. Soccer sucks, whereas football is actually entertaing. Ooh, look at those guys kick the ball around for awhile! Oh, that guy just used his head! LOADS of fun. It may not be the best sport (that's baseball, and then hockey) but it beats the hell out of soccer. Loser.

I agree football should be called football like in every other country in the world. You gotta love the game but it seems Americans haven't realized why the entire world plays it.

awesome BIll? lol yea right, check out wikipedia for real info, its not kool reading blogs and calling it facts buddy.football(real football) was called that before 1920 way before american football was in the head of rednecks still i belive. oh yea, and have some respect for football(again real football) i mean in mexico they ten to change things, to start spanish Mex changed spanish to become mex-spanish which is the spanish that is thought in america, (U.S changed English 2 same thing that mex did) they even introduced a spanish version of the american anthem, but mexicans never thought about renaming FOOTBALL!! in mex football is said football! so american friends with all respect show football some respect and rename your Pig skin ball game! u can use that name if you want. Note:no americans/pigs were hurt int he writing of this blog.

ok, im american and i know calling it soccer is pretty dumb, but who cares. its just a name. ever heard shakespeare : a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet. its the same thing, just cause we call it a different name doesnt mean anything. i personally love it and think its one of the best sports ever.
